Utility vehicles: InPower has introduced the new InSur Auxiliary Battery Optimizer (ABO) that improves battery performance and extends battery life by eliminating excessive battery discharge. The industry’s first three-post battery controller, the ABO charges the auxiliary battery from the chassis battery, while preventing both batteries from being drained by auxiliary loads.

The ABO’s patent-pending design has a third terminal for low-voltage disconnect, so loads are automatically disconnected at a pre-determined low-voltage setting. The ABO also features a MOSFET design that offers several distinct advantages over mechanical contactor-based isolators.

“Unlike with diode isolators, the ABO does not experience high voltage drops across its main contacts, resulting in improved charging to the auxiliary battery,” said John Melvin, InPower’s Vice President of Engineering. “Because it is incredibly efficient, the ABO does not require massive heat sinks, like those found on conventional diode-style isolators that generate a lot of heat.”

Once installed, the ABO is fully automatic with built-in short-circuit protection.

The ABO also has a boost feature that allows manual control of the battery switch, so the chassis and auxiliary batteries may be used to maximize starting power. Its sealed construction provides excellent protection against moisture and dust.

“The ABO is just another example of the innovative electrical systems we are developing to maximize performance and power in a wide range of work truck applications,” said Melvin. “These electrical solutions from InPower are compact, affordable and easy to use.”
