Nicaragua seeks to rehab Salto Negro small hydro project

Nicaragua's Ministerio de Energia y Minas (MEM) seeks bids to supply and install equipment to rehabilitate the 220 kW Salto Negro small hydroelectric project. A site visit is scheduled January 7, with bids due January 29, 2014.

MEM took bids in 2007 for turnkey equipment supply to build Salto Negro at Villa Sandino in Chontales Department. Empresa Hidro Energia S.A. of Guatemala won the contract for that work. The ministry took bids in November to equip the 820-kW Camaleona small hydro project in Jinotega Department.

Under a program of small-scale hydropower development in off-grid areas, MEM now seeks bids to supply and install equipment including sensors and Kaplan-type turbine bearings, a synchronous generator, a turbine regulating system, controls, generation testing and painting.

A site visit is scheduled January 7 and a bidders meeting January 9. Questions may be submitted until January 14. Bids in Spanish are due by 10 a.m. January 29.
