PSEG to power Super Bowl with renewable energy

Sponsored by

Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) is partnering with the NFL Environmental Program to provide renewable power for Super Bowl XLVIII.

PSEG said that for every megawatt hour used to power the Super Bowl, one renewable energy credit (REC) will be purchased and retired on behalf of Super Bowl XLVIII. This includes power used at the following locations: Met Life Stadium, the AFC and NFC team hotels and Super Bowl Boulevard, which is the largest public Super Bowl event in Times Square in New York City.

PSEG's REC purchase will include New Jersey solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) from PSE&G's Kearny Solar Farm. Kearny Solar Farm, a 3 MW-dc farm, was developed during Gov. Chris Christie administration in an effort to install solar power on undeveloped brownfields and landfills.

Any remaining RECs will be purchased from Community Energy Inc., the Jersey-Atlantic City Wind Farm, the largest commercial grade wind farm in the state. Since PSEG is purchasing the RECs, the purchase will not affect New Jersey ratepayers.
