SunEdison will be building a 10 MW solar power project on Staten Island in New York City. The facility will be located on 47 acres at Freshkills Park, which was once the world’s largest landfill.

The project will increase New York City’s renewable energy capacity by 50 percent and has five times the capacity of any solar energy system currently in the city, according to a release from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office.

SunEdison was selected to design, construct, install and operate the facility through a public bidding process, according to Power Engineering.
