Met-Ed restores power to 88 percent of customers affected by outages

Metropolitan Edison, a FirstEnergy Corp. utility, is continuing its work to restore power to customers in southern and eastern Pennsylvania following the summer storm that downed trees and wires in the region Tuesday evening.

As of 10:00 a.m., Met-Ed has restored more than 64,000 of the nearly 69,000 customers who lost power since the event began, with about 88 percent of the customers restored within 24 hours.


Work continues in the hardest hit areas in York, Adams, Cumberland and Lebanon counties. It is expected that service will be restored to customers in the Reading, Bowertown, Easton and Stroudsburg areas this evening. Outage restoration work for the remaining customers in in the Lebanon, York, Hanover, Gettysburg and Dillsburg will be completed by Friday evening.

More than 900 linemen, hazard responders, forestry workers and support personnel are involved in the restoration effort, including those from Met-Ed, other FirstEnergy utilities, contractors and outside utilities.  Helicopters also patrolled power lines to help identify outage locations.
