Last wind turbine placed at DanTysk offshore wind farm

Wednesday, with the installation of the last of 80 wind turbines an important milestone is reached for the DanTysk offshore wind power project. The offshore wind farm, erected by Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München (SWM), will have a production capacity equivalent to the consumption of up to 400,000 households.

Vattenfall began erecting the first wind turbine in mid-April this year. The installation of the 80 wind turbines could be completed in about four month, not least because of the good weather conditions on the North Sea.

"We are delighted that the 80 wind turbines in the DanTysk offshore wind farm could be set up so quickly. Additionally particularly positive is that the inter array cable installation between the turbines and the offshore substation went smoothly." said Gunnar Groebler, Head of the Renewables Business Unit for Vattenfall's Continental/UK region.

The DanTysk offshore wind farm covers an area of 43 square miles in the German Exclusive Economic Zone on the border to Danish territorial waters. The wind farm has an installed capacity of 288 MW and will generate power, with low greenhouse emissions, equivalent to the consumption of up to 400,000 households. DanTysk is a joint venture of Vattenfall (51 percent) and Stadtwerke München (49 percent).
