Emaar Properties Selects Elster AMI Solution for the World's Tallest Free Standing Building, Burj Dubai
Elster announces its award of the tenant automated metering system contract for the Burj Dubai, an Emaar Properties project. Emaar, the premier real estate development company in Dubai, selected an Elster advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) solution for its Burj Dubai high-rise project, based on its accuracy, functionality and flexibility and its competitive advantage. Upon completion, the Burj Dubai (Dubai Tower) will be the tallest free standing building in the world and will utilize Elster's Meridian System for tenant consumption metering and the collection of metering data.
Installation of the Meridian System with the high accuracy A1350 ALPHAR meters began in October 2007 with implementation throughout 2008. Emaar Properties plans to commission the system by the fourth quarter of 2008.
Mr. Rashid Ghamraoui, MEP Project senior manager for BESIX Engineering stated, "The Elster metering system was selected due to the demonstrated capability of its meters and software. The A1350 ALPHA meters offered by Elster were tested to be highly accurate and fully programmable allowing Emaar to update the meter programming based on its future need. Similarly the Meridian System was demonstrated to have robust capability to function automatically based on pre-programmed schedules to collect all meter readings and generate comprehensive reports for the property management company. The Burj Dubai will be one of the highest tech buildings in the world; similarly it deserves a high tech and robust metering system."
Ronald B. Via, vice president of Elster Electricity commented, "The United Arab Emirates has become known for its use of cutting edge technology in the new and innovative projects it undertakes. Elster takes the same approach in the development of its metering systems, so this project is a natural fit for success."
Emaar Properties selected Elster because of its ability to deliver a complete AMI system that meets the customer's business case. The Meridian System will utilize the Ethernet network within Burj Dubai to communicate with 1,287 A1350 ALPHA meters used for tenant metering. The Meridian System is a flexible and user friendly system for meter reading, data storage and data analysis. Meridian provides the ability to monitor energy usage and the analysis tools needed to better manage business and power costs. Meridian can read, store and process meter information for a local facility or for a group of facilities around the country or around the world, helping to increase a company's competitive advantage.
The A1350 ALPHA meter is an electronic polyphase meter for residential and light commercial customers with load profile storage. Elster's patented ALPHA meter technology with digital measurement techniques offers high accuracy, repeatability and low ownership costs.
The project is being managed by Elster Electricity's UAE branch office with product and technical support provided by Elster business units. Elster Messtechnik in Germany will manufacture and support the A1350 ALPHA meters. Elster Integrated Solutions in Raleigh, North Carolina is responsible for delivery and support of the Meridian System.
