Powering Your Fleet Towards the Future
The Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference (EUFMC) today announced plans for its 55th annual gathering, to be held June 15-18, 2008 at the Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, VA. For the third year in a row, the growing annual conference is expected to attract a record number of attendees.
"In 2007, we had 90 fleet managers from investor-owned electric utilities in the U.S. and Canada in attendance at EUFMC," said Rich Mento, Fleet Manager - Electric System at United Illuminating Company who is serving as this year's EUFMC President. "That figure was 20% higher than in 2006 and included 39 new members. EUFMC is a success because it gives fleet managers who are new to the industry a chance to network with experienced colleagues and share concerns and solutions, and allows veteran fleet managers to stay abreast of technology and management developments.
"The officers and directors of EUFMC work hard to address issues that concern all electric utility fleets," Mento added. "Before developing conference plans we listen to attendees to learn what topics are of greatest interest, and focus on offering presentations on those that are most critical, so everyone can gain valuable and helpful information. This year, the general session theme is "Powering Your Fleet Toward the Future" and we know attendees will find the presentations that are being planned very beneficial."
During EUFMC 2008, fleet managers, suppliers, and experts about electric utility fleet issues will discuss in detail the latest environmental concerns and their impact on fleet operations, diesel emissions, regulations impacting utilities, hybrid vehicle developments, and other new technologies such as telematics and data capture systems that can enhance vehicle and maintenance efficiency. The conference will also feature sessions on fleet management practices such as life cycle costsing and modeling and will hold its annual Fleet Manager Idea Exchange, an informative group discussion about best practices for common vehicle, maintenance and management issues.
New for EUFMC 2008 is an expanded outdoor Equipment Demonstration and Display designed to meet the need for larger equipment and growing interest in the conference by suppliers of vehicles and equipment for the electric utility industry. An annual highlight of the conference, the showcase has been the site of more than 60 exhibits where fleet managers can meet with over 200 representatives from more than 70 manufacturers and service providers to discuss technology developments.
