RuggedCom Inc. Announces The Issuance Of Two U.S. Patents Relating To Its Environmentally Hardened Ethernet Technology
RuggedCom Inc. ("RuggedCom") (TSX:RCM), a leading provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, announces that it has been granted two patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademarks Office issued October 28, 2008 under U.S. Patent No. 7,443,646 and U.S. Patent No. 7,443,054. These patents are related to the innovative methods used in transient suppression and isolation of the power supplies used within RuggedCom's Ethernet networking products. These designs allow for greater tolerance to electromagnetic interference which could affect the data transmission of the Ethernet devices. The designs covered by these patents are used within many of RuggedCom's Ethernet switches, network routers and serial device server products.
"Power supplies are susceptible to many types of failures and is a leading cause of Ethernet equipment failure, especially when deployed in harsh environments", explains Marzio Pozzuoli, President and CEO of RuggedCom. "Power supply reliability in communications network infrastructure is essential for mission-critical applications and our unique design facilitates maximum network uptime and high availability."
The power supply is an important component within RuggedCom's internal RuggedRated™ certification program. The RuggedRated™ specification establishes a set of criteria that networking and communications devices must meet in order to ensure reliable operation within harsh environments. RuggedRated™ products: meet or exceed a wide range of industry standards; provide high levels of immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heavy electrical surges; feature a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (no fans); and have high mean time between failure (MTBF) and reliability characteristics.
