Opening Glance: Utility company stocks open mostly higher

NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of utility companies opened mostly higher Friday as the broader market extended the previous day's gains.

A government employment report showed the nation's employers cut far fewer jobs than expected last month.

Here is how some utilities are trading:

American Electric Power Co. Inc. rose 22 cents to $45.09

Pepco Holdings Inc. rose 14 cents to $44.51

Consolidated Edison Inc. rose 7 cents to $42.29
