This year's fifth annual Utility Products Conference & Exposition (UPCE), outlined in our "UPCE Show-in-Print" article, will bring you the latest products, demonstrations, training and more! Sponsored by Utility Products magazine, UPCE takes place Jan. 29-31, 2013, in San Diego. Co-located with DistribuTECH, this event offers opportunities to increase your product knowledge and network with others by bringing together buyers and sellers of power, telecom, CATV and water equipment in one place. Attendees will be able to discuss and learn about practical solutions to everyday problems and participate in product demonstrations and training. And, you won't want to miss keynote speaker Gary Noland discuss life after 12,500 volts. Hear how Norland, once a healthy 240-pound man who loved his work, had his life changed in one second and the reality of how it can happen to you if safety isn't taken seriously. Norland discusses, in gut-wrenching detail, how the safety incident affected not only him, but his wife, family, friends and community.

Also featured in Utility Products' January issue is our "2012 Products of the Year," which highlights those product announcements that received the highest reader response during 2012. All products featured in the magazine are relevant, and this section presents product spotlights in which you, our readers, expressed the most interest. Among products presented you will find a time domain reflectometer, current transformer terminal blocks, spotlights, infrared cameras, a voltage detector, a non-overcenter material handling device, a non-contact phase rotation meter, an underground cable puller, an all-in-one power system featuring six forms of power, a computer docking station, and an impact socket offering three socket sizes in one. No matter what your area of expertise, every issue of Utility Products brings you information to help make your job safer and more productive.

This issue also brings you a variety of product focus articles to help keep substations safe with video surveillance, weather storms with padmount switchgear, protect utility and smart grid electronics with outdoor cabinets, and prepare and plan for storm response. Other great articles present mobile technology for rugged terrain, rigid spacers for transmission projects, smart communications with distribution automation and wireless automation technology, and how configurable inverter functions help harmonize solar's impact on the electrical grid.
