Ameren Illinois selects Landis+Gyr for advanced metering project
Ameren Illinois will deploy Landis+Gyr's Gridstream RF mesh solution to enable two-way advanced metering
Ameren Illinois selected Landis+Gyr to provide an advanced metering and meter data management solution for the utility's comprehensive grid modernization initiative.
Ameren Illinois will deploy Landis+Gyr's Gridstream RF mesh solution to enable two-way advanced metering. The Gridstream network supports a variety of smart grid and advanced metering functions that help utilities manage peak energy loads, improve outage response and promote energy efficiency.
"Landis+Gyr's metering solution will help Ameren Illinois to achieve aggressive performance improvement goals while positioning us to meet the energy efficiency and customer service needs of the future," said Richard J. Mark, president and CEO of Ameren Illinois. "As we move forward with our grid modernization and infrastructure investment plans, having the right metering and network partner will be the foundation for improving the energy delivery system today and into the 21st century."
The Ameren Illinois grid initiative — the Modernization Action Plan — was made possible by a 2011 state law that provides incentives for participating utilities to make significant upgrades to the century-old energy delivery system under a formula ratemaking process.
In addition to advanced metering, Ameren Illinois plans to implement new outage-sensing technologies and fortify the existing distribution infrastructure, benefitting customers, co-workers, investors and the environment. The MAP will serve as the blueprint that will guide Ameren Illinois throughout its 10-year grid modernization program.
Ameren Illinois provides electric service to 1.2 million customers and gas service to 813,000 customers across central and southern Illinois. Ameren Illinois will install new Gridstream network and metering equipment to meet the anticipated data and communication requirements of future smart grid applications. Complementing the Gridstream solution, Landis+Gyr will also be deploying the Ecologic meter data management system.
