Hitachi Power Systems wins contract with Xcel Energy for SCR systems
The Hayden Station fires Colorado low sulfur bituminous coal as its primary fuel
Hitachi Power Systems America, a unit of Hitachi America won a contract for the design and supply of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) Systems including Hitachi's proprietary catalyst with Xcel Energy for its Hayden Station, Units 1 & 2, located in Routt County in Hayden, Colorado. Terms were not disclosed.
The contract includes the design and supply of an SCR system for Hayden Units 1 & 2, which are coal-fired steam electric generating units with a net capacity of about 184 MW and 262 MW, respectively. The Hayden Station fires Colorado low sulfur bituminous coal as its primary fuel. SCR systems reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, a contributor to the formation of urban ozone and smog.
The SCR systems being furnished by HPSA will use Hitachi's catalyst, offering high NOx removal efficiencies over a wide operating load range. This technology will help Xcel Energy meet or exceed its nitrogen oxide reduction requirements, while keeping sulfur trioxide emissions low. This highly reliable system is being designed for continuous operation throughout the year.
