SDE gets approval for 100 MW power plant project in Kenya

Tel-Aviv, Israel, January 31, 2011 — SDE Energy has announced that the Ministry of Energy in Kenya has granted official approval for the establishment of a 100 MW power plant on the Kenyan coastline.
The installation of the power plant will be executed in cooperation with local company Sea Wave Gen. SDE has recently signed an agreement in Mexico for the establishment of a 1 MW power plant.
The 100 MW power plant will be installed along the shores of Kenya, with a production cost of $0.02 per 1 KW, while the produced energy will be bought by the local electric company KPLC with a tariff of $0.08 per 1 KW.
Sea wave energy production is an innovative technology with great potential. The waves are created as a result of the winds on the surface of the ocean. Energy production factors include the velocity of the wind as a factor of the wave height; the wind's consistency; the ocean surface area, its depth, and its topography. SDE has built several sea power plants. The new sea wave power plant, which is actually the 9th plant built at Jaffa Port by SDE, has been finalized and operated in the recent days, proving itself as a better and improved version of the previous models.
It can produce 60 KWh (with only one buoy), it is a fully automatic model, and only 10 percent of the whole system is in the waters, which minimizes the risk to the system in cases of storms and other natural disasters.
The system developed by SDE has the ability to supply 500 times more power than current worldwide sea wave energy consumption. SDE owns a world patent, as well as a number of other patents in registration process.
