Emerson buys Turbine Control Service Associates

The acquisition expands the breadth and depth of Emerson Process Management's product portfolio for the global power generation market

Pittsburgh, January 25, 2011 — Emerson has acquired Pittsburgh-based Turbine Control Service Associates, Inc., a leading independent provider of generator excitation control systems for power plants.

The acquisition expands the breadth and depth of Emerson Process Management's product portfolio for the global power generation market. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Turbine Control Service Associates helps power plant operators improve generator performance and reliability by replacing aging controls with systems that take advantage of newer technology.

The company’s Digital Generator Controller system currently controls generation of thousands of megawatts at nuclear, fossil and hydroelectric power plants.

Founded in 1993, Turbine Control Service Associates’ generator excitation systems control a wide range of generators driven by large and small steam turbines, combustion turbines, and hydroelectric turbines. The company has offices in Pittsburgh and San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Power plants using Emerson's control technology represent about 725 GW of the world’s total generating capacity. The company’s Ovation expert control system was designed specifically to meet the unique challenges of the power industry.
