FirstEnergy Generation Corp. sells two peaking plants in Ohio

FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) today announced that its FirstEnergy Generation Corp. subsidiary has closed the sale of its Richland Plant in Defiance, Ohio, and its Stryker Plant in Stryker, Ohio.

Akron, Ohio. October 19, 2011. FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) today announced that its FirstEnergy Generation Corp. subsidiary has closed the sale of its Richland Plant in Defiance, Ohio, and its Stryker Plant in Stryker, Ohio, to Richland-Stryker LLC, an affiliate of privately held Quintana Infrastructure & Development, for an undisclosed amount.

FirstEnergy operated both plants as peaking facilities, placing them in service only during high electrical usage periods. The nameplate installed capacity at the Richland Plant is 444 megawatts (MW) and 20 MW at the Stryker Plant.

FirstEnergy is a diversified energy company dedicated to safety, reliability and operational excellence. Its 10 electric distribution companies comprise the nation’s largest investor-owned electric system. Its diverse generating fleet features non-emitting nuclear, scrubbed baseload coal, natural gas, and pumped-storage hydro and other renewables, and has a total generating capacity of approximately 23,000 megawatts.
