Xcel Energy gets approval for 29 renewable energy projects

A majority of the projects are for the development of solar energy, while the rest are wind and biomass energy

Minnesota regulators approved 29 renewable energy projects to receive $42 million in grants from Xcel Energy’s Renewable Development Fund.

A majority of the projects are for the development of solar energy, while the rest are wind and biomass energy. Three are block grant awards given to institutes of higher education to be used for renewable energy research initiatives.

Nearly $95 million has been awarded through the Renewable Development Fund including the recent announcements. The owners of the projects sell the generated electricity to Xcel Energy or use it themselves. More than 27 MW of renewable energy is under development from three previous funding cycles.
