Brazilian natural gas use rose 10.9 percent from January to July as fossil-fired power plants continue to raise demand for the fuel, a new report shows.

Consumption hit 78.4 Mm3/d, almost two thirds of which came from the country's southeast, according to Brazil's distributors' association Abegás.

"In the month of July alone, [consumption] growth reached 3.3 percent in relation to the previous month," Abegás said.

The July tally coincided with a 4.7 percent rise in fossil (or thermal) generation compared with June, the association added.
