JCP&L hires meter readers to improve customer service
Jersey Central Power & Light hired 15 new meter readers who have been deployed throughout the company's 13-county service area
Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has hired 15 new meter readers who have been deployed throughout the company's 13 county service area.
The new hires received comprehensive training before joining 125 meter readers currently on staff at JCP&L to record electrical usage on more than 1 million customers' meter. In addition, they can also be deployed as hazard responders and public protectors when severe weather produces power outages and downed wires.
"Meter readers perform a key function at our company by reducing the number of estimated customer bills through efficient and accurate recordings of electricity usage," said James Fakult, president of JCP&L. "They also provide a vital community service as 'boots on the ground' who can quickly identify and report any unusual situations along their routes."
JCP&L is a unit of FirstEnergy Corp. JCP&L serves 1.1 million customers in the counties of Burlington, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren.
