Canadian Enbridge buys 50 MW First Solar project in Nevada
The acquisition, terms of which were not disclosed, represents an entry for Enbridge in the U.S. solar energy market
Tempe, Ariz., March 23, 2012 — Canadian energy transportation firm Enbridge Inc. has purchased the 50-MW Silver State North solar project in Nevada from U.S. solar module marker First Solar.
The acquisition, terms of which were not disclosed, represents an entry for Enbridge in the U.S. solar energy market. Don Thompson, vice president of green energy at the company, said that the market offered substantial growth opportunities in view of the good solar resources, favorable regulatory environment and growing portfolio of projects.
Silver State North was developed and built by First Solar. It is scheduled to come online by May 2012, using First Solar's thin film photovoltaic modules. The facility is expected to generate 122,000 MWh of electricity per year, enough to power around 9,000 households. The output will be purchased by NV Energy under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
