AES Solar wins approval for 5 MW Hawaii solar park

Honolulu, September 11, 2012 — AES Solar's environmental impact statement for its planned 5 MW solar facility in Hawaii has been approved.

AES Solar hopes to sign a power purchase agreement with Hawaiian Electric Co, which will need to be approved by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.

Construction of the Kalaeloa Home Lands Solar plant, worth $20 million, is expected to begin in summer 2013, with the facility to be operational early in 2014.

AES Solar is a joint venture between U.S.-based utility group AES Corp. and local private equity group Riverstone Holdings LLC formed to develop the project.

Kalaeloa Home Lands Solar is one of a number of solar parks planned for Kalaeloa.
