Bechtel wins contract for its third California solar power project
Bechtel will also build the 7.2-mile transmission line to connect the facility to a nearby substation
San Francisco, April 17, 2012 — Bechtel won a contract by enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, for the engineering, procurement and construction of the Catalina Solar Photovoltaic Generating Project in Kern County in Southern California.
Bechtel will also build the 7.2-mile transmission line to connect the facility to a nearby substation.
The 110 MW facility will be built on 1,100 acres and produce enough solar energy to power about 35,000 homes.
Construction is scheduled to begin in May pending final approval from the California Public Utilities Commission, with scheduled completion in 2013.
In addition to its work on the Catalina Solar Project, Bechtel is building two other solar facilities in California: Ivanpah and the California Valley Solar Ranch.
