Argentina strikes deal for two Chinese nuclear reactors

During a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Argentinean President Mauricio Macri, the two countries inked a deal for a pair of nuclear reactors.

China will deliver two reactors to Argentina. The first is a CANDU pressurized heavy water reactor, and the other is a pressurized water reactor.

Argentina is planning to build its fourth and fifth nuclear power plants at Atucha and at a second site yet to be determined. The CANDU reactor will be the third reactor at Atucha.

The deal is worth some $15 billion, according to the Argentine government. China will contribute 85 percent of the financing.
