Hurricane Ike was the costliest hurricane to ever hit Cuba, as well as the costliest hurricane to ever hit Texas. Ike was responsible for about 195 deaths, 74 of which were in Haiti. Somewhere between 2.8 million and 4.5 million were left without power in Texas. A Duke Energy spokesperson said at the time, "We have never seen anything like this. Never. We’re talking about 90 percent of our customers without power."
