Formerly known as the Yeonggwang Nuclear Power Station, Hanbit was renamed at the request of local fisherman, who sold a fish under the name Yeonggwang and blamed the nuclear plant on the fish's lackluster sales. The plant spent 8 months offline after a fracture was discovered in a control rod guide tube before being brought back into service in June 2013.
