ESMO 2019 is the IEEE PES 14th International Conference on Transmission & Distribution Construction, Operation and Live-Line Maintenance.

“ESMO is a one-stop shop with indoor exhibits and outdoor demonstrations provided by experts and vendors who are demonstrating state-of-the-art equipment and tools,” said Jon Cronin, a transmission line manager for American Electric Power and one of the planners for ESMO 2019. “From safety to day-to-day operations, ESMO covers a lot of ground and puts a face on the electrical utility industry. It is a great, informative and interesting experience.”

Cronin has worked for American Electric Power for 34 years. He began his career with the company as a transmission line mechanic and subsequently held various positions related to transmission line construction, line maintenance and storm restoration. He is currently the line manager for central and northwest Ohio.

“My first involvement with ESMO was in 1995 when American Electric Power hosted the conference,” he said. “As the outdoor show announcer, I was able to see the entire show and enjoyed the experience. I was involved again in 2016, when I served as outdoor demonstration manager for the transmission line portions.”

“Nowhere else can you see and learn so much that’s relevant to transmission and distribution field work at one place in a span of just a few days,” Cronin said. “It’s a great opportunity! This year, I am serving as outdoor demonstration manager for the entire show (transmission line, distribution, substation and big equipment), coordinating the various demonstrations, schedules and logistics.” UP
