Colombia's mines and energy planning unit UPME awarded state-owned transmission firm ISA a transmission contract in Caribbean-facing Atlántico state, ISA and UPME said in separate releases, Business News Americas.

Responsibilities include the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the 220 kV Caracolí substation and associated lines, near the city of Soledad.

ISA is required to have the substation operational by November 30, 2016 and expects the facility to generate $7.54 million per year, the firm said.

ISA won the tender with an offer of $61.2 million, beating primary rival EEB's $89.4 million offer, UPME said.
