Schneider Electric provides weather services to PJM, PSE&G
PJM Interconnection is now incorporating GIS web services weather data into an interactive dispatch map
Schneider Electric is expanding its relationships with the PJM Interconnection and Public Service Electric & Gas of New Jersey. Schneider Electric will provide the companies with new solutions from its weather forecasting suite
PJM Interconnection is a regional transmission organization that oversees wholesale electricity markets in the eastern U.S. A Schneider Electric customer since the 1980s, it is now incorporating GIS web services weather data into an interactive dispatch map, allowing system operators to integrate multiple data sources including weather data and its transmission system.
Public Service Electric & Gas of New Jersey is the largest provider of gas and electric service in New Jersey, servicing more than 1.8 million gas customers and 2.2 million electric customers in more than 300 urban, suburban and rural communities, including New Jersey’s six largest cities. Earlier this year PSE&G took over the day-to-day operations of the Long Island Power Authority, adding 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties, and the Rockaway Peninsula of Queens in New York City.
PSE&G is expanding its 50-year-old relationship with Schneider Electric weather services by incorporating the Energy Event Index solution to support its emergency preparedness and outage management divisions.
PSE&G joins nearly all of the utilities in the northeast and mid-Atlantic states by bringing on the Energy Event Index solution. This new forecast provides a categorized threat risk for PSE&G operational regions. It will enable PSE&G to make improved mutual aid and crew management decisions, and better communicate and defend those decisions.
