APPA names officers
Paula DiFonzo, CEO of New Braunfels Utilities in Texas, was installed as chair of the American Public Power Association board of directors
Paula DiFonzo, CEO of New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) in Texas, was installed as chair of the American Public Power Association board of directors at the association’s national conference in Denver, Colorado.
DiFonzo has been with New Braunfels Utilities since 1981 and was named general manager by the NBU board of trustees in July 1994, and then CEO in June 2001. As CEO, she oversees the day-to-day operations, the hiring of employees and associated personnel issues, budget planning and capital plans to serve the needs of nearly 33,000 utility customers.
She joined the APPA board in 2006 and has served on the association’s utility awards, bylaws and executive committees. DiFonzo serves as chair-elect of the Texas Public Power Association’s board of directors.
“Paula has been a steadfast supporter of public power throughout her career and has been active in APPA for more than a decade,” said APPA president & CEO Sue Kelly. “We are excited to continue to harness her industry knowledge and dedication as we push public power forward during an unprecedented time of change and challenges.”
Austin Carroll, general manager of the Hopkinsville Electric System in Kentucky, is APPA's chair-elect for 2014-15. Douglas Hunter, general manager of Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems in Salt Lake City, Utah, is vice chair. J. Gary Stauffer, executive director of NMPP Energy in Lincoln, Nebraska, is immediate past chair. Paul McElroy, managing director and CEO of JEA in Jacksonville, Florida, is treasurer.
DiFonzo chose five members of the board to serve with the officers on the APPA executive committee. They are: Andrew Boatright, electric utility manager of Westerville Electric in Ohio; Bill Bottiggi, general manager of Braintree Electric Light Department in Massachusetts; Ronald E. Davis, general manager of Burbank Water and Power in California; Scott Miller, general manager of City Utilities of Springfield, Missouri; and Decosta Jenkins, president and CEO of Nashville Electric Service in Tennessee.
Newly elected to the APPA board this year are: Anthony Cannon, general manager/CEO of the Greenville Utilities Commission in Greenville, North Carolina; Andrew McMahon, superintendent of the town of Massena in New York; Bill Gaines, director/chief executive officer of Tacoma Public Utilities in Washington; and Ronald Skagen, commissioner of Douglas County Public Utility District in East Wenatchee, Washington.
Six board members were re-elected to new three-year terms: Douglas Hunter of Salt Lake City, Utah; Andrew Boatright of Westerville, Ohio; Ron Bowman of Boerne, Texas; Daniel Sullivan of Vinita, Oklahoma; Steven Blanchard of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Walter Haase of Fort Defiance, Arizona.
