Transmission lines: Coalition supports proposed Badger Coulee power line

Transmission lines: The Coalition Organized for Reliable Energy (CORE) is comprised of statewide organizations, businesses and trade associations that support improvements to the Wisconsin transmission system. Accordingly, CORE is pledging its support for the Badger Coulee project, a 345 kV transmission line from the La Crosse area to Dane County that will provide low-cost, dependable electricity, economic development, and access to renewable energy in Wisconsin.
“Reliable, affordable electricity is a top priority for WMC members across Wisconsin,” said Eric Bott, Director of Environmental and Energy Policy for Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC). “A robust transmission system helps ensure that the lights stay on and electric providers can access the most cost-effective sources of power to keep rates down.”
“The construction of major transmission projects, like the proposed Badger Coulee line, means jobs and development in Wisconsin,” said Brady Weiss of IBEW Local 953. “Not only will workers benefit through the significant employment opportunities created by this project, but a strong grid enables the delivery of low-cost power generation to homes and businesses throughout the state.”
“Badger Coulee will significantly increase transfer capacity into Wisconsin, improving the deliverability of clean energy across the Upper Midwest,” said Joe Sullivan, Regional Policy Director for Wind on the Wires. “It is important that a strong transmission infrastructure is in place that allows low-cost renewable energy to be harnessed and delivered to major load centers in Wisconsin.”
Throughout the upcoming approval process for Badger Coulee, CORE will provide a unified voice for the thousands of Wisconsin businesses and residents that will benefit from an improved transmission infrastructure.
