The fourth annual Utility Products Conference & Exposition (UPCE), taking place Jan. 24-26, 2012, in San Antonio is gearing up to bring you everything a utility worker needs to do the job—the latest products, demonstrations, training and more. This issue’s “UPCE Show in Print” article discusses the upcoming event and how it will provide you with everything from tools to cutting-edge technology to the latest insider information. Co-located with DistribuTECH at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, UPCE 2012, which is sponsored by Utility Products magazine, offers you an opportunity to increase your product knowledge and network with others by bringing together buyers and sellers of power, CATV, telecom and water equipment in one place. Attendees will be able to discuss and learn about practical solutions to everyday problems, as well as participate in product demonstrations, training and conference sessions, and breakfast roundtables. UPCE conference sessions will include “Managing Electrical Operations (Part 1 and Part 2),” “Developing Occupational Programs at Your Local Community College,” “Examining Occupational Grounding (Part 1 and Part 2),” “Understanding Switching Best Practices,” “Crafting Training and Development for Line Workers” and “Adopting Lessons from Local Smart Grid Work.” Two pre-conference courses will also be offered: “Working Near High Voltage Substation Equipment” and “Grounding and Bonding.” In addition, UPCE will feature three Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) robots demonstrating their skills onsite. Experts from the Electrical Industry Training Institute (EITI) will also present conference sessions, including a two-part session on managing electrical operations. UPCE attendees will have access to the DistribuTECH exhibit hall—as well as the networking party.
