KC Lineman's Rodeo Participants Attended From Across U.S.

The 29th Annual International Lineman's Rodeo was held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in Bonner Springs, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City. Kansas City Power & Light and Westar Energy were the host utilities.

There were participants from Jamaica, Canada, Brazil and the UK this year—as well as many competitors from across the U.S. Participants came from some 110 electric utility companies. In addition, there were some 2,500 people for the event, and 205 teams and 194 apprentices that competed in the competition.

The 2012 International Lineman's Rodeo Safety & Training Conference was held Oct. 10-11 at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kan., another suburb of Kansas City. Organizers expanded their commitment to promote safe work practices that improve line worker safety by offering all attendees the opportunity to hear from industry experts about safety issues and important topics evolving in the industry. And, the International Lineman's Rodeo Expo '12 was held Oct. 11-12, also at the Overland Park Convention Center.

The Lineman's Rodeo attracts the best linemen from around the world to compete in events based on traditional lineman tasks and skills. The first Lineman's Rodeo was held in Sept. 1984, with 12 participating teams from Kansas and Missouri.

The 30th Annual International Lineman's Rodeo & Expo is scheduled to be held Oct. 13-16, 2013, at the Overland Park Convention Center, Overland Park, Kan.
