Utility testing: Alpha Technologies cut the ribbon in February for a new training center that will provide hands-on training for Critical Infrastructure Powering professionals in the cable telecommunications industry. Alpha representatives, executives from the cable industry and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) were on hand for the ceremony.
John Hewitt, Alpha’s Vice President of Broadband Sales and Product Management, presided over the event, making introductions and providing a tour of the new facility.
The state-of-the-art classroom and training room was designed and wired by Alpha technicians with the latest in Alpha cable/broadband powering equipment, including a large array of rack-mounted power systems, rectifiers, inverters and battery racks which would be found in a typical headend facility.
Alpha will use the facility for product testing, hands-on training, and for showing customers the equipment in use. The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) is also expected to begin using the facility for its Critical Facilities Best Practices training classes later this year.
“Providing hands-on training with equipment that is considered the industry standard helps to improve network reliability and reduce operational costs,” said Greg Zediker, Alpha Technologies Director of Critical Facility Power and Construction. “Showing our power equipment in a functional critical facility further enables us to highlight Alpha’s technological leadership, improve safety and standardize installation and preventative maintenance practices.”
The training facility is housed inside the 150,000 square foot Alpha Technologies Suwanee headquarters. Three companies that are part of The Alpha Group (Alpha Technologies, Altair Advanced Industries, and Alpha Industrial Power) employ 150 people at this location. It’s located roughly 33 miles north of Atlanta, the ninth largest metro area in the United States.
The Suwanee headquarters is one-of-two Altair manufacturing locations for the Alpha XM3-HP, AMPS 80 Systems as well as many other advanced power supplies, enclosures, rectifiers, and custom industrial power products. Along with manufacturing and engineering offices, this facility operates a product service center and parts warehouse.
Alpha Technologies Inc. provides the communications industry with powering solutions used in cable television, communications and data networks worldwide. Alpha provides a full line of power products including standby, non-standby and uninterruptible power supplies, surge suppressors, enclosures, batteries and powering accessories.
