Portland General Electric breaks ground on gas power plant
Workers are currently working on the foundation and installing transmission towers
When finished, the plant is planned to produce 440 MW and come online by July 2016. Workers are currently working on the foundation and installing transmission towers. The permit allows up to 900 MW, which allows PGE to build an additional 450 MW unit.
PGE agreed to either shut down the plant or switch to another generating source by the end of 2020 as part of an agreement to resolve Clean Air Act violations. PGE owns 65 percent of the plant, with Bank of America Leasing LLC owning 15 percent; Idaho Power Co. owns 10 percent; and Power Resources Cooperative owns 10 percent.
