Potomac Edison fighting power outages

As of 9:00 a.m., Potomac Edison has restored more than 51,000 of the about 96,000 customers who lost power since the event began

Potomac Edison, a FirstEnergy Corp. utility, continues an aggressive effort to restore power to customers in Maryland and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia following the summer storm that downed trees and wires in the region beginning last night.

As of 9:00 a.m., Potomac Edison has restored more than 51,000 of the about 96,000 customers who lost power since the event began. The hardest hit Potomac Edison areas include Cumberland, Williamsport, and Frederick in Maryland and Martinsburg, Augusta, and Berkeley Springs in West Virginia. Based on the severity of the damage, the company expects this to be a multi-day outage event.

All available Potomac Edison personnel are involved in the outage restoration effort. Additional FirstEnergy resources and contractors are being deployed to Potomac Edison areas impacted by the weather, and efforts are continuing to secure additional support through utility mutual assistance organizations.
