Protect equipment from animal caused outages

Salisbury by Honeywell partners with Cantega to offer customers Greenjacket power system protection.

Louisville, Ky.—Salisbury by Honeywell is now offering its customers the Greenjacket solution for power distribution systems, including substations and power lines. Greenjacket is a power protection system consisting of custom-fitted dielectric polymer covers that protect equipment from animal-caused outages.

Greenjacket was brought to Salisbury by Honeywell by Cantega Technologies Inc., a Canadian company. The Greenjacket solution is gap-free coverage that eliminates opportunities for animal contact against power equipment. The covers are individually manufactured to fit the customer’s equipment; they are weather resistant, highly durable and able to be installed on live power lines to avoid costly maintenance outages.

It has been estimated that animal-related outages cost the U.S. over $30 Billion each year with millions of animals being killed from contact with electrical equipment. One 2005 study for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service suggested collisions with power transmission and distribution lines may kill up to 175 million birds annually. This is the first long-term solution in the U.S. that increases power system reliability by protecting wildlife, saving potentially billions of dollars in outage expenses and millions of animal lives.
