Digital Clamp-on Resistance Testers Include Bluetooth

Megger has enhanced its DET24C earth/ground digital clamp-on resistance tester to include Bluetooth. This upgrade allows users to download stored test results instantly to a PC instead of downloading them using an IrDA interface.

Using Bluetooth V2.0 and enhanced data rate (EDR), data from the DET24C no longer needs to be transferred using a USB dongle-making the process faster and more convenient than ever before.

Megger’s PowerDB Lite software, which comes standard with the instrument, has also been updated to enable users to select the download method of their choosing. This allows older IrDA instruments to work alongside the newer Bluetooth versions.

Testing with the DET24C can help prevent a rise in voltage caused by a fault current, surges and lightning strikes in earth/ground systems. The slim profile and clamp design allow for easier access and testing of round conductors. The DET24C can clamp round cables up to 37 mm in diameter and earth tapes/straps up to 50 mm wide.


Personal Voltage Detectors V-Watch

Voltage measurement: HD Electric, a Textron Inc. company, is preparing for storm season with its V-Watch Personal Voltage Detectors. Designed to be worn on the outside of your clothing at mid-torso, the V-Watch Personal Voltage Detector provides an extra level of safety by detecting and alerting the wearer to the presence of electrical fields or energized electrical equipment.

The V-Watch Personal Voltage Detector allows restoration workers and first responders to safely and effectively restore power to customers by providing an audible alarm that increases in frequency as the wearer gets closer to the voltage source. Typical initial warning distance is about 7 ft. from a 4 kVAC conductor. Warning distance increases with higher voltages.

It comes with a durable nylon carrying case that is electronically shielded and used for storage when the V-Watch Detector is not in use. There are two versions of the carrying case-one that is flame resistant material with a safety-green color for high visibility and the other that is a black shielded material.

Network Analyzer DataScout 10Gx Multi-service

Power management: Greenlee Textron Inc., a Textron Inc. company, offers the DataScout 10Gx multi-service network analyzer under the Greenlee Communications brand. This Greenlee Communications branded analyzer can be remotely controlled up to 100 ft. away using any Android tablet or mobile device equipped with Bluetooth.

Service providers and utilities are integrating mobile devices into their workflows and are seeking test equipment that leverages these devices as well, it’s reported. The DataScout 10Gx enables technicians to work independently of their test equipment, yet still retain full command and control when working in tight locations or in high density equipment racks.

Android App Enables Remote Control of DataScout Multi-service Network Analyzer

Utility equipment: Greenlee Textron Inc., a Textron Inc. company, offers a new Android application enabling remote control of the DataScout multi-service network analyzer under the Greenlee Communications brand. This new Bluetooth interface and app option enables the device to be remote controlled up to 100 ft. away using any Android tablet or mobile device equipped with Bluetooth. The DataScout can also be locally controlled through the built in ruggedized LCD touch screen in addition to WAN remote control through a web browser.

Service providers and utilities are integrating mobile devices into their workflows and seeking test equipment leveraging these devices. The DataScout mobile application enables technicians to work independently of their test equipment, yet still retain touch screen command and control when working at the device.

Thermal Camera for Thermography Experts High Definition Handheld

Utility safety: FLIR Systems Inc. offers the FLIR T1020, also known as the FLIR T1K, a thermal camera for use in a multitude of industrial and building diagnostics applications. The T1K is a high definition handheld instrument featuring high measurement performance, image clarity, and a highly-responsive user-interface. The T1K allows users to find hot spots quickly, measure them precisely, and streamline their entire work process.

The T1K features high image quality because of the 1024 x 768-pixel uncooled infrared detector that offers twice the sensitivity of the industry standard for uncooled sensors. This resolution is further boosted by the addition of FLIR Vision Processing, which combines FLIR’s UltraMax super resolution process with FLIR’s patented MSX image enhancement software that overlays important visual details and perspective, such as numbers and labels, over the full resolution thermal image. The image processing features are cited to provide the highest quality images available in a compact system.

The T1K features FLIR’s OSX Precision HDIR optics, which deliver image quality and range performance, and allow for accurate temperature measurements from twice as far away compared to the industry-standard lenses. The T1K also features a new focusing system that offers continuous autofocus as well as a dynamic manual focus.

AC/DC Clamp Meter Supports Data Storage, Report Generation on Smartphones, Tablets

Hioki has announced the launch of the AC/DC Clamp Meter cm4372 and cm4374. The new products provide connectivity with smartphones and tablets by adding Bluetooth communications functionality to the cm4371 and cm4373, which were launched in September 2015 as rugged clamp-on meters designed to let professionals do their jobs quickly under a broad range of conditions.

In addition to automatically detecting the type of current being measured (AC or DC), the instruments allow measurement data acquired with convenient functions such as inrush (surge current) measurement to be saved on smartphones and tablets using an app that can also log data and generate reports.


Transformer Tester Easily, Safely Tests Distribution Connectors

Utility testing: HD Electric Co., a Textron Inc. company, has launched its ClearTest Transformer Tester, a compact and lightweight handheld device to quickly, easily and safely test all distribution connectors in a transformer. The device looks both inside and outside the transformer, testing the coil, core and whatever the transformer connects to, alerting the user of any open circuits or short circuits, as well as notifying the user that the transformer is okay to work on.

The ClearTest Transformer Tester is a completely new design that briefly energizes the transformer and takes a snapshot of its condition by measuring the voltage, current and power factor of the test signal. The one-button interface quickly and easily verifies that the transformer and its secondary connections are neither open nor shorted and provides an audible alarm to confirm a successful test.

Two-channel Data Logger Model L452 is Low Cost, Simple to Use

AEMC’s new Model L452 is a low cost, simple to use, two-channel data logger. It records DC voltage, DC current, pulses and events. Its advanced design incorporates features and functions not found in data loggers costing two to three times its price. Its two input channels allow the user to connect to various types of sensors to record data such as pressure, temperature, flow, humidity and more. This logger can also be used to record events such as machine run time. Each channel’s real-time measurement is displayed on the LCD screen.

The L452 communicates through USB or Bluetooth for configuration and data transfer to a PC. The unit can also be configured using its front panel with a simple user interface. The menus are multilingual, and users can lock the keypad with the PC software. In addition, alarms can be set on various measurements. DataView software for data storage, real-time display, analysis and report generation from a pre-defined or custom template is included.

The PEL 105 is built into a waterproof case with an IP67 rating designed for outdoor use and is especially useful for pole mounting. Handheld Megohmmeters Measure Insulation Resistance up to 200GΩ

Test equipment: AEMC offers a line of easy-to-use handheld megohmmeters capable of measuring insulation resistance up to 200GΩ-Models 6522, 6524, 6526, 6532, 6534 and 6536.
