Energy network: Smart grid modernization webinar series
Energy management: ABB Smart Grid Center of Excellence launches grid modernization webinar series.
Electrical grid: Free, interactive, online educational series from experts at the ABB Smart Grid Center of Excellence focuses on “POWERful insights” for today’s rapidly evolving grid, and how new technologies help utilities overcome challenges facing the industry today.
ABB announce details for an upcoming “grid modernization” webinar series this fall. This free series, sponsored by the ABB Smart Grid Center of Excellence, will examine the major challenges and groundbreaking solutions facing the power industry today.
The power industry is undergoing a 100-year transformation and as a result, it faces unprecedented challenges, such as the integration of distributed energy resources, grid interconnection for intermittent renewable energy, making energy storage more efficient, ambitious new regulations and a rapidly aging grid infrastructure. The convergence of Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT) is certainly helping utilities manage these challenges, but it raises a new set of complicated questions about which technologies work best for a particular application, and how to integrate these new solutions with existing systems.
This free grid modernization webinar series will tackle these issues head-on and provide “POWERful insights” for the evolving grid from several experts with years of first-hand smart grid experience.
The series is made up of four one-hour webinars this fall (all times are Eastern Time):
• Asset Management: You can¹t afford to wait. September 30, 11:00 am; featured Presenters: Howard Self, Marlene Benoit, Shawn Lyndon (Ventyx).
• Steps to grid modernization: It doesn¹t have to be all or nothing. October 16, 2:00 pm; Presenters: Gary Rackliffe, Howard Self, David Frame.
• The future of energy storage, beyond the batteries: Is energy storage really a viable solution? November 13, 11:00 am; Presenter: Pat Hayes.
• Leveraging smart grid technologies to manage distributed energy resources: Are you on the DER bandwagon? December 16, 2:00 pm; Presenters: Gary Rackliffe, Howard Self, Clinton Davis (Ventyx).

About the ABB Smart Grid Center of Excellence
Located on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University, the new, state-of-the-art ABB Smart Grid Center of Excellence (COE) was created to demonstrate ABB’s technology and investment in the smart grid industry, and to provide customers with proven, integrated smart grid solutions for distribution automation. The COE has functional systems that display the end-to-end solution where information technologies (IT) and operational technologies (OT) converge to close the loop of automation, control and data acquisition. In addition to the demonstration area, ABB has invested in a Distribution Automation Verification Center, where the interoperable testing of industry accepted products and development of advanced applications can take place.
ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people. The company¹s North American operations, headquartered in Cary, North Carolina, employ over 30,000 people in multiple manufacturing, engineering, service and other major facilities.
