Farmington Hills, Mich., January 20, 2010—To meet a growing demand for utility industry metering products and new product development, Brooks Utility Products has expanded its headquarters operations in Farmington Hills, Mich. Manufacturing and warehousing space has been increased by 35 percent, adding up to 20 percent more personnel.
Brooks UP supplies a wide range of metering-related products to the utility industry, including meter socket upgrade and conversion adapters, meter warm-up boards, transformer-rated sockets, test equipment, socket testers, sectionalizers, primary cabinet enclosures, temporary power products, Fiber To The Home (FTTH) power source adapters and asset protection seals and locking rings.
“This expansion has prepared us to meet the growing demand for Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) products, as well as other metering-related products for the electric, gas and water utilities,” said Jeff Hanft, president of Brooks Utility Products. “We have participated in more than 20 million AMR/AMI endpoints to date, and many new deployments are just getting underway. In addition, funds from the Smart Grid Investment Grant (SGIG) to the utility industry have resulted in the acceleration of AMI deployments.
The manufacturing expansion includes more robotic operations for new barrel lock assembly, testing and packaging, along with additional work cells for assembly of meter socket upgrade and conversion adapters. The company’s customer service, engineering and new product research and development capabilities have been expanded, and additional warehouse space has been added to accommodate increased inventory of finished products.
