Transmission line construction: Elecnor Hawkeye announced the purchase of a new specialty equipment for High Voltage Underground Transmission installation that further separates their capabilities from the competition. The company just took title to an underground cable puller that has a continuous line pull of 80,000 lbs., far greater than most others can handle.

Hal Meeler, Director of Elecnor Hawkeye’s UG Transmission group said, “More and more utilities are moving to underground transmission over overhead because of public opposition, improved permitting schedules and aesthetics. At the same time, the costs of high voltage cable systems have been decreasing, making it a more attractive alternative. Elecnor Hawkeye is keeping pace with the growing business and has deployed new technology and new equipment to ensure that they can execute any size job.”

The new 80,000-lb. underground puller in Elecnor Hawkeye’s fleet provides infinite speed control and precise tension and distance monitoring to make sure cables are not damaged during installation. The company has other cable pull winches of 30 k and 15 k, as well as boom trucks, vacuum and transfer pumps, splice trailers, and other specialty equipment.

Elecnor Hawkeye’s Underground group has recently installed XLP and HPFF cables from 69 kV to 400 kV. The experienced team has completed numerous projects involving pipe installation, pressure testing, vacuum testing, cable installation, terminating and splicing, filling of nitrogen and oil filled system, pipe freezing and reconductoring.
