GainSpan displays smart energy wireless solutions at DistribuTECH

Wi-Fi connectivity provider GainSpan Corp., will showcase its latest wireless solutions for the Smart Energy market at DistribuTECH 2014, January 28 – 30, in San Antonio, Texas.
The company's GS2000 Wi-Fi/ZigBee chips, modules and application development kits (ADKs) will be on display at the Symmetry Electronics Booth #825.
The GS2000 is the industry's first single chip solution bringing together two IEEE low power standard wireless technologies: Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and ZigBee (802.15.4). It offers device manufacturers the option to develop a single product (SKU) supporting both wireless technologies as well as the capability to bridge between these technologies.
Other key differentiating features include Wi-Fi Direct concurrent mode, allowing a device to act simultaneously as a station as well as an access point; support for meshing/routing over 6LoWPAN; support for several Smart Energy Profile (SEP) device types and function sets such as DRLC and pricing; an energy measurement unit and 16-bit Sigma Delta ADC channels, eliminating the cost of an additional power measurement chip; a dual IPv4/IPv6 stack.
With its low power consumption and fast wake up time from idle state, and its extensive and integrated networking stack, the "Smart Energy" optimized GS2000 solution is designed for applications such as meters, thermostats, smart plugs, appliances, air conditioners, water heaters, lighting and more.
GainSpan demonstrations will feature the GS2000-based Thermostat and Smartplug ADKs. The Thermostat ADK is a complete reference design for a thermostat with wireless connectivity and an excellent starting point for development of Smart Thermostats that adjust to homeowner usage patterns, a home's thermal characteristics and outside temperature. The Smartplug ADK is a complete reference design for smart plugs/ smart power strips.
