Energy meters: Schneider Electric has announced BACnet IP protocol as an additional, standard feature for PowerLogic PM5500 power meters. These meters can now simultaneously communicate with building management and energy management systems using both BACnet and Modbus protocols. PM5500 meters are BTL tested to ensure seamless interoperability between products from any manufacturers, adherence to new building specifications and reduced risk of integration errors and associated costs in the field. The PM5500 meters are the first in the market to combine dual communications protocols and BTL certification.

PM5500 meters are part of the highly accurate and reliable PowerLogic PM5000 series. Engineered on a compact and affordable platform, these meters provide the measurement capabilities needed to allocate energy usage, perform tenant metering and subbilling, pinpoint energy savings, optimize equipment efficiency and utilization, and perform a basic assessment of the power quality of the electrical network. Now featuring industry-leading BACnet support and dual communications protocols, project engineers no longer need to purchase a gateway, which is expensive, time-intensive, and complicated to program and maintain. Also, using BACnet protocols enables facility managers to better collect granular data to make strategic energy decisions.

“With BACnet protocol now a standard feature in addition to Modbus, the PM5500 meter enables simultaneous communication, making integration into building and energy managemet systems even easier,” said Drew Reid, offer manager for Schneider Electric. “These meters provide energy measurement and cost management capabilities that can help users reduce energy bills, increase operational efficiency and improve business performance.”

Simple to order and easy to use, PM5500 meters install without tools in a standard DIN sized cut-out or on a standard DIN rail. Internal memory stores key information and provides data logging capacities. On-board web pages allow real-time and logged information to be viewed using any browser for easy information access without specialized software. PM5500 meters are available in panel mount with an integrated display (PM5560) or transducer-style (PM5563) with an optional remote display.
The meters also include enhanced harmonics capabilities, and dual Ethernet ports to daisy chain meters together, saving on installation and wiring costs.
