This marks the culmination of a project to increase reliability and improve service for the utility’s 3.4 million energy customers on the East Coast of the U.S.
The project includes the upgrade of National Grid’s transmission and distribution control centers in upstate New York and Massachusetts, standardizing the systems on ABB’s latest network management technologies.
ABB provided design, engineering, software, hardware, system implementation and related services to implement the SCADA/EMS, which will enable National Grid to deliver secure, efficient and optimized operation of their electric power system.
The Network Manager platform includes the SCADA system, advanced power system applications, user interface with advanced visualization and situational awareness, as well as a fully integrated operator- training simulator.
It features system integration capabilities including the use of common information model, full system redundancy and scope for expansion, and will help National Grid meet its cybersecurity requirements (NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection).
The ABB Group of companies operates in roughly 100 countries and employs about 140,000 people.
