Bechtel selected for power transmission project in Canada

The project will expand and upgrade ATCO's electrical transmission system in the southeastern part of the province

Frederick, Md., June 7, 2011 — Bechtel has been selected by ATCO Electric to provide project and construction management services for the Hanna Regional Transmission Development Project in the province of Alberta, Canada.

The project will expand and upgrade ATCO's electrical transmission system in the southeastern part of the province.

Bechtel will manage project and construction services for about 250 miles (400 kilometers) of new and existing transmission lines, new substations and upgrades to existing substations.

The need for new transmission facilities in the Hanna region has been identified to reinforce the current transmission system and meet increased regional demand. The new facilities will enable the interconnection to wind generation as well as supply electricity to pipelines and other industrial developments.

Bechtel, along with its Canadian affiliate Bantrel, will perform project planning, project management and procurement services. Construction of the project will begin this summer, ramping up through the winter months with completion planned for spring 2013.
