Dominion Virginia Power works through holiday on storm restoration

In the last 24 hours, service was restored to another 50,000 customers — many in areas that suffered the most severe damage

Richmond, Va., July 5, 2012 — Dominion Virginia Power continued to make progress in restoring power to all customers who lost electric service because the July 1 severe thunderstorms.

In the last 24 hours, service was restored to another 50,000 customers — many in areas that suffered the most severe damage. In all, Dominion restored service to more than 95 percent of the 1 million customers whose service was disrupted in the largest non-hurricane event in the company's history.

More than 5,500 Dominion employees, retirees, contractors and utility crews from 18 states and Canada continued to work through the July 4 holiday. More than 1,000 bucket trucks are employed in the effort. Work will continue around the clock until power is restored for all customers.

More than 3,800 repair locations remain to be addressed. In many instances, the repairs will return service to one or a few customers. Repairs at another 19,000 locations have been completed.
