Mitsubishi opens engineering center for nuclear business

Mitsubishi Nuclear Energy Systems, Inc. announced the opening of its Charlotte Engineering Center

Charlotte, NC, May 22, 2012 – Mitsubishi Nuclear Energy Systems, Inc. (MNES) announced the opening of its Charlotte Engineering Center.

The Charlotte Engineering Center, located in Ballantyne Corp. Park, now provides the primary support to the company’s new-build projects in the United States.

Mitsubishi’s US-APWR, a pressurized water reactor design for the U.S. market, has been selected by Texas-based Luminant for its proposed Comanche Peak Units 3, 4 and Richmond, VA-based Dominion for a prospective third unit at the company’s North Anna Power Station in central Virginia.

Engineers at the Charlotte Engineering Center will work with partners and contractors in the area of project management, engineering, and quality assurance. As MNES transfers certain operations to Charlotte, the company will also maintain its licensing operations and Corporate Headquarters in Arlington, VA.
