Tulsa, Okla., February 9, 2012 — North America's No. 1 electricity transmission and distribution show, DistribuTECH Conference & Exhibition, in 2012 will launch its South American version in Rio de Janeiro, Sept. 25-27, 2012.
DistribuTECH Brasil will be co-located with an established PennWell sister show, HydroVision Brasil, at the Riocentro Exhibition & Convention Center. HydroVision Brasil, now in its second year, is expanding on its success in providing a conference and international exhibition focused on developing the region's hydroelectric power sectors.
Odebrecht, a global diversified business that includes energy infrastructure development and construction and is headquartered in Brasil, will sponsor both events' conference planning meetings in Rio de Janeiro on March 13. Electric energy experts in generation, transmission and distribution will attend the meeting and plan the events' conference sessions.
Odebrecht is a perfect sponsor for the committee meeting due to its expertise through its subsidiary company Odebrecht Energia, which is an expert in hydroelectric, thermoelectric, nuclear power plant and electricity transmission projects.
Odebrecht Energia currently is helping construct 70 hydroelectric power plants that together generate 52,757 MW of electricity; 17 thermoelectric power plants, with a production of 3,500 MW of electricity; and, two nuclear plants that will produce 1,938 MW of electricity. In addition, Odebrecht Energia has installed 6,297 km of transmission lines.
Marla Barnes and Michael Grossman, the managers of HydroVision Brasil and DistribuTECH Brasil, respectively, recently visited with Odebrecht's executives in their Rio de Janeiro office to discuss the upcoming committee meeting.
"We are so pleased that Odebrecht has agreed to sponsor and host our upcoming planning committee meetings," Barnes said. "The company is well-known and highly-regarded throughout the world and we are thrilled that it is making this investment in our events."
"Having Odebrecht as our committee meeting sponsor shows that the Brasilian energy industry recognizes the benefits associated with our upcoming events," Grossman said. "Odebrecht is a solid company and its participation in our planning committee meetings will benefit PennWell and Odebrecht."
In addition, PennWell recently announced that LIGHT, the utility that serves Rio de Janeiro, confirmed its support as a host utility of the events.
By co-locating DistribuTECH Brasil and HydroVision Brasil, PennWell can provide a unique and unprecedented platform for the coverage of a broad range of topics and technologies impacting the Latin American electricity industry.
