Smith Electric Vehicles U.S. Collaborates on First All-Electric Utility Truck in America

Smith Electric Vehicles U.S. Corporation (SEV U.S.), a Delaware corporation headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., announced that it has teamed up with Altec Industries Inc., based in Birmingham, Ala., to introduce America's first all-electric utility truck with an aerial device. The truck will be unveiled June 22 at the Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference in Williamsburg, Va.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved the American Clean Energy Leadership Act of 2009 by a bipartisan vote of 15-8, following months of hearings and meetings with various industries, including NEMA. The June 17 bill includes recommendations that NEMA provided when it testified before the committee In March. The legislation now proceeds to the full Senate for consideration at a time yet to be determined.
